Moss & Algae Control
Algae formation is a phenomenon of recent years and appears on tiles and reed.
General education in a thatched roof is bad because it has a negative impact, especially when the algae forms a closed layer, the lifetime rapidly declining.
Algae can be combated with simple environmentally friendly anti-algae agent.
A heavy bealgd roof has a long drying time it needs a few days really dry (no dew at night) before the surface is dry.
What is happening: the algae layer shrinks during drying. There are scholletjes algae that forms the top layer of the reed opening. Is there a rain it will rain very deep in the reed penetrate.( Valt er nu een bui dan zal het regenwater zeer diep in het riet doordringen = vertaling van bovenstaande zin)
The algae take during rainy weather on moisture. The surface closes. The roof is very deep wet and has a very long drying time. The roof is rapidly deteriorated.
Moss on the roof.
There are many types of moss. And what the thatched roof is concerned, one moss is not the other.
Left: an old roof where the vegetation with Crescent and Star Gray winding stem is a sign that the roof even though old, still healthy.
Right is a relatively new roof (on the picture three years) now have a reasonable cover of fine laddermos, a clear sign that the reed is too long to remain moist.
Moss is not as damaging as algae because mosses make no final layer.
The influence of moss on the drying of the reed is therefore less than the (negative) impact of algae.
Should a roof be cleaned, free of moss, cannot quickly control chemical, moss should always be manually removed.
Maintenance Contract
If you want we can do an annual inspection on your thatched roof. We come once a year, and look at your roof after defects. If necessary, we treat against the algae and moss. All this you can arrange in a maintenance contract. You will then have no longer to think and we try to keep your roof in top condition. For proper maintenance extends the life of your roof.
